Here’s a list I’ve compiled for my selection of must have fragrances this summer. The list is in no particular order.
1. Lacoste Red
This is a perfect fragrance to use in the day. It has notes of green apple, pine tree, patchouli and vetiver which give it a clean and fresh scent. I’ve been using it for almost 3 years now.
2. Hugo Boss Element
This fragrance is for the urban man aiming to be sophisticated. It has notes of calone, ginger, coriander and cedarwood. This fragrance will leave a definite impression.
3. Davidoff Cool Water
This is a classic and was one of my first fragrances given to me on my 12th birthday. It is fresh and aromatic with notes of mint and green nuances, lavender, coriander and rosemary.
4. Aramis Rose Perfume Calligraphy
An oriental spicy fragrance for both men and women. It is a very long lasting fragrance so it only needs to be sprayed twice. It has notes of oregano, saffron, honeysuckle, Turkish rose, myrrh, styrax and lavender. A fragrance that can be used at night for a dinner party.
5. Tom Ford Tuscan Leather
A pricey private blend exclusively from Tom Ford which has a very rich smelling scent. It has notes of saffron, raspberry, thyme, jasmine, leather, suede, amber and woody notes. This fragrance will turn heads and has become one of my all time favourites. It comes with a price tag so I’d recommend using it for special occasions.

Well it all depends on how much you willing to spend. At the moment oud has become very popular with all the brands. My particular favourite is the Armani Privé Oud Royal which goes for R2600 at the Stuttafords in Sandton. A cheaper alternate would be the Hugo Boss Damask Oud which goes for roughly R1400 and can also be purchased at Stuttafords Sandton. If you’re not a fan of the oud range I’d recommend the 1Million Intense by Paco Rabanne or Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio.
